To vaccinate or not to vaccinate?
Antibodies are produced when an antigen such as a virus or bacteria causes a response from the immune system. This can be triggered either by natural exposure or by vaccinations.
The routine administration of vaccines has resulted in desirable disease control for infections. Often left debatable are the frequency and the duration of protection.
VacciCheck measures and indicates the level of antibodies present towards the specific disease, or from the previous vaccine shot. Hence, your dog or cat may not need an additional dose of vaccine against the specific disease tested if these antibodies are indicated to be present.
VacciCheck for Dogs
This tests for the presence of antibodies against Parvovirus, Distemper virus and Hepatitis. It does not test for the presence of antibodies against Leptospirosis.
In Singapore, dogs are generally given the core vaccine shots to protect them against Parvovirus, Distemper virus, Hepatitis and Leptospirosis. Vaccine for Leptospirosis requires more frequent boosters for reliable protection.
Scenario 1:
VacciCheck is performed on my dog, indicating a good level of antibodies against Parvovirus, Distemper virus and Hepatitis.
Vet recommends proceeding with the vaccine for Leptospirosis, a core vaccine booster is not required.
Scenario 2:
VacciCheck is performed on my dog, indicating a non-ideal level of antibodies against any of the three, Parvovirus, Distemper virus and Hepatitis.
Vet recommends proceeding with a core vaccine booster.
VacciCheck for Cats
Cats are given core vaccine shots to protect them against Feline Panleukopenia virus (FPLV), Feline Calicivirus (FCV) and Feline Herpes virus (FHV).
VacciCheck for cats tests for the presence of antibodies against FPLV, FCV and FHV.
Scenario 1:
VacciCheck performed on my cat, indicated positive antibodies against ALL three FPLV, FCV and FHV.
Vet recommends core vaccine booster is not required.
Scenario 2:
VacciCheck performed on my cat, indicated a negative presence of antibodies against any one of FPLV, FCV and FHV.
Vet recommends proceeding with a core vaccine booster.
Procedure for test:
A small sample of blood (0.2ml – 0.5ml) will be collected from your cat or dog.
Results will be available within 1 hour after blood collection.
