1) Do I need to ensure fasting of my pet, whom has a surgery tomorrow?<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nYes, fasting is essential to ensure pet do not vomit when anesthetized. This is to prevent aspiration pneumonia. Pet should be fasted 12 hours before surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) What is the ideal age to sterilize my cat or dog?<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
\nThe general recommendation is 6 months onwards.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) What is pre-anesthetic blood screening?<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
\nA pre-anesthetic blood screening usually includes a complete blood count (CBC) and a liver & kidney profile. This will provide an indication of the suitability of your pet\u2019s health prior to surgery. At Furiends Veterinary Clinic, for patients above age 7 years, this is strongly recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n

4) Is Intravenous (IV) fluids essential for surgery?<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
\nIV fluids administration is recommended to help maintain blood pressure during surgery and IV access allows quick administration of drugs should a critical\/emergency situation arise. At Furiends Veterinary Clinic, for patients above age 7 years, this is strongly recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n

1) Do I need to make an appointment to see the veterinarian?<\/em><\/strong><\/span>

2) What type of animals do you see?<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
\nOur vets only see cats and dogs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prevention Related<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

1) How often should my pet be vaccinated?<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nThe general recommendation is annually. However, an antibody titre check (VacciCheck) can be performed to assess if antibodies are present. This would mean the pet is immune to core diseases and annual booster vaccination is not necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) What vaccinations do my pet require?<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nCats \u2013 Core vaccines include feline panleukopenia virus, feline calicivirus and feline herpes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dogs \u2013 Core vaccines include canine parvovirus, canine distemper virus and canine infectious hepatitis (Adenovirus)<\/span><\/p>\n

3) When should I bring my puppy\/kitten for vaccination?<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nVaccination can start from 6 weeks old onwards. They require 3 to 4 vaccines, with the last vaccination done at 16 weeks onwards.<\/span><\/p>\n

4) How will I know when my pet is due for dental care?<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nYour pet\u2019s oral health should be assessed as part of the annual health check performed by your veterinarian.<\/span><\/p>\n

5) Is it necessary to bring my pet in for yearly health examination?<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nYes, it is recommended as it allows early detection of health conditions by your veterinarian.<\/span><\/p>\n

6) Do we need to give heartworm and flea prevention throughout the year?<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
\nYes, it is recommended as prevention is better than treatment!<\/span><\/p>\n

7) Why does my dog scoot his bottom against the floor?<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
\nThis is may be an indication that anal glands are full\/impacted and needs to be expressed. This service is available at Furiends Veterinary Clinic.<\/span><\/p>\n
