This is to prevent aspiration pneumonia. Pet should be fasted 12 hours before surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1b9097;\"><strong><em>2) What is the ideal age to sterilize my cat or dog?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\">The general recommendation is 6 months onwards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1b9097;\"><strong><em>3) What is pre-anesthetic blood screening?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\">A pre-anesthetic blood screening usually includes a complete blood count (CBC) and a liver &amp; kidney profile. This will provide an indication of the suitability of your pet\u2019s health prior to surgery. At Furiends Veterinary Clinic, for patients above age 7 years, this is strongly recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1b9097;\"><strong><em>4) Is Intravenous (IV) fluids essential for surgery?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\">IV fluids administration is recommended to help maintain blood pressure during surgery and IV access allows quick administration of drugs should a critical\/emergency situation arise. However, an antibody titre check (VacciCheck) can be performed to assess if antibodies are present.
